🥕🍅🥒The kids have so much fun helping me u 🥕🍅🥒The kids have so much fun helping me unbox our weekly produce delivery from Misfits Market! I love that I can now actually afford organic produce for at least a large chunk of our week's menus. I love that we're helping combat food waste. And I love that each week's box helps me to get out of my produce rut and experiment with new things (black radishes, anyone?!). 🥕🍅🥒

"Misfits Market is dedicated to making affordable, high-quality food more accessible while helping break the cycle of food waste."

In this week's box: cauliflower, lettuce, swiss chard, black radishes, tomatoes, potatoes, cabbage, bell peppers, apples, and a pineapple!

Bonus? My kids take turns being the one who gets the HUGE cardboard box each week for their crafting. 🤣

Our favorite way to eat veges is raw (we eat huge salads at least once every day), but if we're cooking veges, our family is going roasted all the way: chop and dump veges on a huge baking sheet, drizzle liberally with olive oil/garlic/salt/pepper, roast at 425 in the oven until crispy. Yummy! All of that, please!

What is your family's favorite way to eat veges?

Use this code for $10 off your first box: COOKWME-OK6INK. Or just click the link in my profile, easy-peasy.

Your boxes are customizable, and if you need to take a break for budgetary or any other reasons, it's super easy to pause and come back later.

When Karen Glass recommends someone "wise and expe When Karen Glass recommends someone "wise and experienced" for your podcast, you listen! And today's guest, Kelly Cumbee, does not disappoint. Kelly brings experience as a veteran homeschool mom of 7 children who have graduated from her homeschool, so her perspective on home education is not to be missed. (swipe to see an example of her homeschool wisdom.)

Kelly is also an enthusiastic lover of Medieval literature, especially the Faerie Queen. In our conversation, we dive into what defines the Medieval imagination, the reasons why studying Medieval and Renaissance literature still matters, and the ways we can gain an entry into this fascinating area of study. Hold onto your library card and book wish list and get ready for a delightful conversation!

Should you choose to pursue a classical education Should you choose to pursue a classical education in your homeschool? Maybe you’ve heard about this thing called classical education and you’re curious.

Or maybe you already consider yourself a Christian classical educator, but you’re feeling burned out. The kids don’t seem to remember or appreciate the things you thought they would, and you wonder if it’s even worth it.

So, why do I pursue a Christian classical education in our homeschool?

Hint: it might not be why you think!

I’m not here to tell you about the benefits of Latin or logic. I’m not here to give you a book list. I’m certainly not here to talk about memorizing lists of dates and dead people. (We take a much different approach to our memory work.)

There are a lot of different voices telling us how to be classical home educators. There’s such value in listening to and learning from one another, even when we approach things from slightly different perspectives.

But I think it would serve us well to take a step back and think about who God is and what that has to do with how and why we educate our children. Our homeschool philosophy ought to be firmly grounded in our theology.

I believe that actually Christian classical education’s greatest strength, what makes it worth pursuing in fact, is found in the character of God Himself.

In my new concise, 10-minute introductory video I share my perspective as a 2nd-generation classical homeschooler. We’ll talk about the dangers of raising “smart pagans,” explore how a word-based education relates to creation, and touch on the necessity of education leading to active love.

Speaking well, writing well... the goal is not jus Speaking well, writing well... the goal is not just to sound fancy or fun. The true goal of communication is to love our neighbor well, to express Truth better.

How might that mindset change the way you approach the study of grammar or writing in your homeschool?

Marc Hays is the author of Analogies for All of Us and is one of my oldest friends. (I long ago lived with the Hays family for several months and helped care for their newly adopted infant triplets!) He's also a curriculum developer for @classical_conversations.

Many of my friends have found Classical Conversations to be a good option for their families. While #CC has not fit with our family's personal or educational priorities, I know so many folks love CC, and several have asked me to include a #ClassicalConversations perspective on the podcast.

So when I decided to bring on a guest from the CC world, I knew Marc would be a perfect fit. Our conversations touched on topics like Christian classical education, analogies (and why they matter), and the true purpose of skillful communication. Regardless of whether or not you're interested in Classical Conversations, I know you'll love this chat!
